Today, my little sister turned 16. It amazes me to think that 16 years ago today, I met her for the first time and thought she was the ugliest thing I had ever seen – she was pink, squishy and had so much hair (little did I know that all newborn babies are generally pretty squishy!)
I looked at her today, and was so proud to see her as she is now – a young adult. A beautiful, vivacious woman, full of confidence and intelligent to boot.
I don’t want her to make the same mistakes I did. I want to protect her the way only a sister can. Because of this, we butt heads – often (our poor mother, normally caught in the middle). I constantly try to feed her advice, try to tell her that “I’ve been there, I KNOW”. But I realise that if she doesn’t make her own mistakes… she will never know for herself. And for my smart and stubborn baby sister, she HAS to find out for herself before she believes ANYTHING!
So, I wrote down a few words of advice for her today, things that I hope she will remember when the time is right.
Be the type of person you want to meet.
It’s never too late to live happily ever after.
Never love anybody who treats you like you are ordinary – Oscar Wilde
She is my sister. I adore her. I would do anything for her. She is brave, soft hearted (even though she would never admit it) and the most loyal person I know. Yes, we fight – but I would never trade her for anything. She has taught me a few things too.
My little sister has shown me how to stand my ground. She’s taught me to fight for what I want. She taught me this – just by being herself.
I grabbed her and her best friend for an impromptu photo shoot this afternoon – I told you she is beautiful.
She has the most amazing blue eyes.
Hey, little sister. Do epic things. You were born to make a difference. You are one of the most amazing people I know.
And don’t forget – I love you to the moon and back.
Thanks for looking – chat soon!
